I am a licensed psychologist in Fort Collins, CO and have a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University. My areas of specialty include women’s issues, GLBTQI support, coping with depression and anxiety, trauma and abuse, and personality disorders. I am highly trained in dialectical behavior therapy, feminist therapy, and cognitive-behavioral methods. I also use narrative and mindfulness-based approaches in my work, and am hoping to integrate art and creative expression as well. In this space, I’m going to share my knowledge and my experiences on coping with many issues, among them difficult times, anxiety, depression, and stress.
I also do life-coaching and self-esteem coaching. I enjoy working with the positive aspects of psychology and find that working creatively in these areas adds joy and depth to life.
I have a passion for promoting wellness and recovery, creating peace and promoting unity, and for increasing acceptance of differences and celebrating diversity. My workshops and seminars in these topics reflect both my clinical training and my joy in life. My current projects include a journaling workbook in progress, and a positive body-image workshop also in progress. I hope to make these available as e-courses through my web site.
My theoretical orientation is eclectic, but strongly grounded in evidence-based techniques. I rely most on cognitive-behavioral approaches, but also use mindfulness and spirituality-based approaches when appropriate. I work with a person wholistically – looking not only at the issue someone walks in the door with, but also how s/he approaches life, what her/his life experiences have been and how they affect the person today, and how all aspects of a person – their physical, mental/cognitive and emotional – integrate themselves into the person with whom I’m speaking.
Personally, I am in my mid-40’s, married and have three wonderful children. I live in Northern Colorado, and have two cats, who are the real rulers of the roost and teach me a LOT about behavior modification and conditioning, as in they control and condition me!
